KEYS TO THE PAST

Today is another rerun of a post I lost, but thought this book was worth mentioning again. My book is called Keys To The Past and is a book I made on my family heritage. This book is made from old manilla folders. I surely hope you enjoy this post.

The picture on the front cover is of my Great Grandfather and this book is on his family. Firstly I found as many old Manilla Folders I could, then I cut them out to the size of the pages I wanted in the book. I distressed the edges and then distressed the edges again with Tim Holtz Distress Ink  "Vintage Paper". This was a very time consuming job,. I then proceeded to make the pages. I covered the old folders with paper from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology range. Each page had a little something on it like a little pocket and in the pockets I have stories I also made tags which decorated the pages nicely.

I included a photo of the family on each page and a little story. I had a small diary which I included on a page that my great grandmother had written in for the year of 1941. That makes good reading, I popped extra photos in pockets and decorated the pages with old pieces of paper, trinkets, rub-ons from Kaisercraft and Heirloom Stickers I made the book for mum for that christmas but sadly she passed away suddenly in the November. So I have the book in safe keeping.

You can see the small diary on the LH page

After I had my pages decorated to how I wanted them I proceeded to make the cover and decorate it. The leaves on the cover are from a you- tube video I saw on how to make leaves from Tim Holtz Tattered Leaves Die. It is a fiddly and rather messy business to make them but they looked great. I then put the book together and bound down the back of it. I searched the internet for a leather fastener and found a lovely one.

I then made the box for the book from and old cardboard box I had, covering it as in the Tim Holtz Papers and distressing it all. I tied the box with a piece of Brown Organza ribbon and the project was finished.

SKETCH PAGE #2 - HAPPY

Hi Everyone,

Today is another page I have done from a sketch. These pages are so good to do when you have scrappers block. This page is done in the lovely colours of, grey, pink and black, a lovely combination in scrapbook pages. These colors really stand out. This page was so much fun to do, and this is my interpretation of the sketch. The photo I have scrapped is myself and my husband at my dad's 80th Birthday Party.
This sketch is from Page Maps

The paper used - Carta Bella - Paris Girl. I used two sheets of paper for this LO and the cardstock is from Co-ordinations. The cardstock matched perfectly with the paper. The small string of jewels on the top and bottom of the photo are from Sullivans - String Blings. I find that Spotlight carries a very good range of these jewels. The flowers were made from a Tim Holtz Die - Tattered Flowers, it is such a versatile die which I use a lot, and the flowers add a lovely look to a page. They can lie nice and flat in an album

The Hearts were cut from a Cherry Lynn Heart Die. Very cute!

Chipboard word Happy - Kaszazz range of chipboard and the cute brad in the LH top corner is also from the Kaszazz range.

I hope you have a go at scrapping this page and I know you will have lots of fun doing it. Visit Page Maps as they have so many lovely sketches to follow.

Happy Scrapping!!!!!

LOVE

Today I felt like taking a break from using up too much brain power, and decided to search the web for a sketch I would like, and do a page from that. I was totally amazed at the amount of beautiful sketches I found, done by some very talented ladies. Below is the sketch I chose and my interpretation of same. I think it is time for a new camera!!!!!

  1. Paper used is Fabscraps - Little Darling and Chic Mix
  2. Bazill Cardstock - two matching colours (photo backed, and lace dies cuts in the cardstock)
  3. Prima Flowers
  4. Handmade Butterflies
  5. Love Rhinestone saying, blue Rhinestones and small blue pearls.
  6. Stampendous - Encrusted Jewels (RH & LH Corners) Pink
  7. Bow
  8. Flourish Stamp
  9. Saying (below photo)
  10. Tim Holtz - Vintage Photo Distress Ink

In this photo you can see the encrusted jewels. When applying them to your work, just sprinkle a small amount on the page where you want them, and then, from the back of the paper heat with your heat gun until they melt and are set. These jewels add another dimension to the look of scrapbooking pages.

ENCHANTING

Today my post is a rerun of an old post I lost recently. I do not remember the name of the papers used, but I personally liked this page a lot, so I wanted to repost it.

  1.  Distress inner piece of paper, using a Martha Stewart Punch - punch out a design on edge of distressed piece of paper and then spray with Smooch Blue Spray Mist, tear paper in a few places.
  2.  Lay Crafter's  Workshop Template on paper and spray with Smooch Mist.
  3. Cut on the Cricut two scalloped circles in two different colours of paper or cardstock.
  4.  Cut the word Enchanting from Cricut Cartridge.
  5.  Spray and Fairy Dust Cardboard Cutout
  6.  Cut out watering can from paper and cover in Fairy Dust.
  7. I then proceeded to assemble my page.
I added some Rub On Butterflies, ZVA black flourishes, Prima matching coloured flowers and a small piece of bark I removed from a small christmas wreath I purchased from the $2 shop.

STRANGERS IN A BOX

Hello Everyone,

For a very long time I have been researching my family history, it has been around 30+ years. I have been lucky enough to inherit a lot of very old photos, some dating back to over 100 years old. Through all these years, there have been four photos in my family history photo box that I do not know who they are. They are definitely family members from way back, but who are they? Today I am posting these four photos and a verse relating to these photos. I hope you enjoy this.

STRANGERS IN A BOX

Come, look with me inside this drawer
In this box I've often seen
At the pictures, black and white
Faces proud, still and serene

I wish I knew the people
The strangers in the box
Their names and all their memories
Are lost amongst the socks

I wonder what their lives were like
How did they spend their days
What about their special times
I'll never know their ways

If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what and when
These faces of my heritage
Would come to live again

Could this become the tale
Of the pictures we take today
The faces and the memories
Someday to be tossed away

I've taken time to save these pictures
Seized the opportunity when it knocked
Otherwise yours and mine could be
The strangers in the box

SECRET GARDEN

Hi Everybody,

I am reposting this page as this is one of the pages I lost when a gremlin entered my blog, and I lost all my photos relating to each post and some of the posts I am not able to redo as I have given the cards and pages away as gifts, so I have had to delete the corresponding posts, and you would not beleive it but two weeks ago I cleaned up my photographic programme and thought I would get rid of most of the pictures relating to my posts as they were safe on my blog, well that doesn't work. He also made a dreadful mess of my side bar, but I have fixed that up thank heavens.

Bo Bunny Country Garden Paper is the basis for this page. I cut a circle and placed it on the page, then I placed some vintage lace at the bottom of the circle. I had the flourishes in the corner painted maroon, and had maroon flowers, but when I placed them on the page it just did not look right. So back to the drawing board and I painted them in Pumpkin Ink as it matched in nicely. The words Secret Garden were cut from my Cricut Cartridge "Plantin Schoolbook".

The flowers were punched out, and then I proceeded to curl the leaves with a quilling tool. I then added some jewels, and a jewel flourish. I then stamped the saying "Wings of a
Butterfly" from one of my Kaszazz Stamps. I stamped a few butterflies on the page with Pumpkin Ink. Lastly I added two butterflies which I covered with Fairy Dust and also a Bo Bunny Sticker "Beauty Blooms from Within".

Maybe in future I will backup my blog.

TO MY BLOG FOLLOWERS

Hi Everyone,

Towards the end of this week, I signed into my blog and felt sick in my stomach, every single photo on my blog was gone and replaced with a grey circle with a white line through it. I had no idea what had gone wrong and went to bed that night hoping when I woke up in the morning all would be well and my photos would be back, but alas not so. A few years work gone!!!! Did some research and found out what had happened and the only way I can fix it is to go into each post and reload the photos relating to each post. I have deleted quiet a few posts and am in the process of cleaning up my blog adding a few new things in my sidebar, and of course reloading all the photos. I noticed today that all my followers received a barage of posts from me, these are my updated ones. I can't stop blogger from resending them, but will delete a lot of my posts to avoid this. In the next couple of days I have seven posts that I will redo, so you will receive these seven old posts through from me. Please bear with me as I fix the problem.

Hopefully will be back to normal next week.

DOILY CARD

Hi Everyone,

Card for today is simple but I think effective.

For this card I used White and Pale Blue cardstock. I cut a piece of white cardstock 11" x 5 1/2", scored the card in the middle and stamped a writing stamp of mine in two places one at the top and one at the bottom and while I had my stamps out, stamped "Just For You" on a piece of white cardstock. I then went around the white pieces of cardstock with a pale blue ink. I then cut with my Circle Dies  2 x circles and adhered them to the front of the card. To make the flower cut two doily dies I used Cherry Lynn " Italian Flourish" and then cut each die in half, then fold each piece and join  each piece together with glossy accents, to make four petals. Then adhere the four pieces on the front of the card to make the flower. I added a small flower to hide the centre, you could use a large jewel or brad. Blue Pearls were added to the front and "Just for You" placed on the front with magic mount behind it to give it a raised look. Hope you enjoy this card and have a go at making it. It is very pretty.

ORIENTAL CARD

Hi Everyone,

Well today I wanted to use up the scraps of paper I had left over from a scrapbooking project I have done using Graphic 45 "Birdsong" paper. This paper is beautiful to work with and lends itself easily to making a great oriental style card.

This card is 11' X 5 1/2", this is the size card I prefer to work with. I suppose being a scrapbooker it gives me a larger area to play around with.  Once I had the background finished I adhered it to the base of the card. I then proceeded to add a small oriental fan cut out on my Cricut from the "Pagoda" cartridge, and added a couple of flowers and some pearls.

I decided to use up most of the scraps and decorated the inside of the card with some matching paper from the front design. I then stamped one of my lovely Kaszazz birthday stamps to finish the card off.

Voila the card was finished. Hope you enjoyed my card for today.

TOGETHER

Today I am featuring a very simple page I have done for the album, the photo being of myself and my two sons. The paper I have used is from the Websters Range - Family Traditions. These are fun papers to use as they have a very homely feel about them. I have used matching Bazill Cardstock behind the photo, all the papers are from the Family Traditions range, the doilies behind the photo are cut from a co-ordinating piece of paper. Flowers and leaves are of course from Prima (my favourite flowers). I have added some Gingham  heart lace and some jewels from Zva and a beautiful cameo with a bird sitting on a branch. A chipboard word "Timeless", and a nice saying cut from the Websters Paper " Together is our favourite place to be".

Above is a photo of the cameo. It is so cute and matches the page perfectly.   Bye for now.
